세계 습지의 날 특집 시리즈 Part 3! 오늘은 한국의 사례를 소개해 드립니다.
[하천 복구 사례 – 태화강, 대한민국]
태화강이 자리 잡고 있는 울산 광역시는 1962 년 특별 공업 지구로 지정되었다. 태화강은 과거 산업화와 도시화와 함께 수로화, 심각한 수질오염, 하류의 낮은 하류 방류로 인해 황폐화되었다. 울산시는 1990년 후반부터 수질 개선, 하천 정화, 수류 확보를 위해 본격적인 강변 생태계 복원에 나섰다. 콘크리트 호안 철거, 자연서식지 복원, 물고기 사다리와 같은 친환경 구조물 등을 설치하였고 하천은 철새, 포유류, 물고기(연어)와 같은 야생 동물의 수가 회복되는 기록을 보였다. 현재, 태화강 일대는 시민들에게 여가 및 문화 서비스를 제공하고 있다.
